Welcome to the Neighbors Against the Marshall County Regional Sewer District website.
If you live in one of the 13 areas designated by the Marshall County Sewer District as needing a sewer system and do not want to be forced to connect to a sewer system when you have a functioning septic then you should join this group of concerned neighbors. These projects the District is trying to impose on us without any input from any of us will be very, very costly for all of us and unnecessary for most of us.
If you are currently on a septic system and want to know if your property is affected Click on the following list and map.

Marshall County Committee of Safety and I have scheduled a presentation about septic systems and questions on Oct 14 @ 6pm @ Plymouth Library. Seating is limited and anyone interested is welcome. It is not about if you are for or against the sewer, it is about septic systems. We will cover basic aerobic system technology and benefits, what is a failure and what is not, inspections and what does and does not have to be reported to the health dept, repairs and replacement, second opinions and more. There will also be Q&A.
Please let me know if you have any questions....Bill Woodward 574-540-9302
Update: We still need to keep sending letters to IDEM and our governor since we are still waiting on IDEM to decide if our county commissioners and council can dissolve the Marshall County Regional Sewer District (the sewer board). I don't expect to hear anything before the middle to end of October, that's how government works. In addition to our county council and commissioners meeting with IDEM so has our state Senator Mike Bohacek.
October 10 is the first court date to hear the case against Tom McFadden for refusing to comply with the commissioners request to step down from the sewer board. At the last sewer board meeting JPR suggested maybe looking at breaking the first project, PSA1, down into smaller groups to get the project cost down. They did this in LaPorte county and the project cost per household did not go down. They also suggested maybe letting the homeowner paying for and installing and maintaining the grinder pumps in order to reduce the project costs, all to possibly make it easier to get funding, even though the cost for the homeowner to connect would increase by several thousand dollars. And regardless this is just a ploy to get the sewer started and all the same issues will still exist.
September 10th - Bill Woodward is working on setting up a presentation meeting about aerobic systems, some of the options they provide, types of installs/repairs available, what they can and can't do, costs and more, and any questions you might have for the presenters. This meeting will be open to anyone interested regardless of your position on septic/sewer or if you are even involved in the issue. It will be strictly informational about septic systems.
If you are interested in this meeting contact Bill or fill out the form on the website, contact us page.
From the September Sewer Board Meeting:
For those who could not make it to the sewer board meeting today, I thought it was informative for once. Alice Quinn from Indiana Department of
Health was a guest speaker and she stated there is no state statute that prohibits installing a new drain field in the same location as the existing
one when one fails and you don't have another location to put one. This is not what the sewer board and others have been saying so this is very
informative and good to know. And probably the best part of the meeting.
Also I asked at what cost does the sewer board consider the monthly service fee too much to proceed, Dean Colvin stated his position was $100/month,
believe it or not Tom McFadden said $200/month. So I asked why are they continuing to design and spend money when without grants it's already over $209?
The response was they are going to slow down and look for ways to reduce the cost. JPR suggested maybe not installing the grinder pumps and let the
homeowner do that at their expense. So how does that make it cost less? Now the homeowner has to pay for it and the installation and maintain it.
So then your hookup cost would go up about $4000-$6000, but you can put it where ever you want. Good luck with that one!
I could ramble on but I won't. If you get a chance watch it and skip over most of JPR's comments.

August 6th - Plymouth Public Library - Neighbors Against Marshall County Sewer Meeting - Volunteers for surveys and flyers
AUG 11 5:30PM - COUNTY COUNCIL
We all need to show up and ask Jim Masterson and Greg Compton why they are trying to convince the other council members to stay out of the sewer
issue. The council appoints one person to the sewer board so they are involved and need to support one side or the other.
